Fixing Society Must Be Prioritised Over Fixing Capitalism?
We should prioritise fixing society before capitalism suggested Henry Mintzberg in a 2022 article he recently republished. He suggests that process must be led by the Plural Sector (civic society, the third sector, not-for profit sector etc. combined). He suggests that we can’t rely on corporate social responsibility (CSR) at address the failings of capitalism. And government have mostly proven incapable. He also expresses concerns about the overreach of capitalism into areas that the market should have no place.
In many respects I agree with his arguments, but I am concerned that thus far the fragmented plural sector he speaks of has been as ineffective as the other two in achieving change. For that reason I am not convinced we should put all our faith into the plural sector delivering the change we need as fast as it is needed.
As I see it, there are enlightened individuals and organisations in each sector, private, public and plural, and change is more likely when they come together and start cooperating, collaborating and co-creating alternative solutions, institutions, and organisations that offer better alternatives to the existing ones that are failing us.
To that end, I want the to be a facilitator or the dialogues that need to happen between the enlightened representatives from each sector.
